Famous Indian Wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat met South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook on Tuesday. The South Korean first lady is in India along with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. They are on a visit from 8th to 11th July.
Phogat sisters are the ones on whom Aamir Khan starrer Dangal movie was based. The Phogat sisters along with their family were invited to the capital city Delhi to meet the first lady who became a fan of these girls after she watched the film with a group of students in her country.
The sisters hold impressive records in the field of wrestling. Though they earned name and fame with their hard work, but got a worldwide recognition after the Bollywood film ”Dangal’.
Elder sister Geeta Phogat won a gold medal in the 55 kg freestyle category at the 2010 Commonwealth games. On the other hand, younger sister Babita Phogat the gold medal in the 55 kg category at the 2014 Commonwealth games. Both the girls have made Indians proud. And the person behind their success was their father Mahavir Phogat and his determination. He himself trained his daughters to become world-class wrestlers. His character was played by Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan.
“It is a great honour to have been invited over a cup of tea with her. We were told that the first lady was quite appreciative of the movie, which has touched her deeply,”, said Mahavir Phogat on meeting the First Lady.
Geeta Phogat’s cousin Rahul Phogat said, “After watching the film with Indian students, she liked it and expressed keenness to meet us. We were contacted by the Korean Embassy officials and now all of us are planning to meet her.”
The Phogat family hails from Balali village in Bhiwani District, Haryana.
