On 12th July 2018, Sprinter Hima Das wrote history by winning gold at International Association of Athletics Federations Under-20 Athletics Championships in the women’s 400m final race in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Finland and made the Country Proud as well.

Hima Das hailing from Assam’s Nagaon district has garnered herself a lot of appreciation from all over the country as many renowned personalities lauded the Assam sprinter on social media like PM Modi and superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

The 18-year-old couldn’t stop her emotions and teared up as she stood at the top of the podium when proudly singing the national anthem.

As soon as Hima Das won the gold she became the talk of social media but instead of searching her story of struggling days and success, people searched for her caste. Yes, you heard it right, people googled her Caste! Google trends showed that how caste was the most suggested search topic relating to the athlete Hima Das and States like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala and more had the highest search results.

After her name, the google suggested Caste which means most of the people are interested in knowing her caste, not her story.

Let’s take a look at what Twitter users have to say about the same:

After seeing this and the mentality of our people, we don’t know where we are heading towards.

Earlier When asked what was going through her mind before running for the 400m final, she said, “There was nothing. If I were to think too much I would not have been able to focus on my running. I was telling myself bhaag, Hima, bhaag… aur main sirf bhagi (Hima you have to run and I just ran)”.
